Born in Haiti and raised in the U.S., Rasin Haitian's founder dreamed of owning a restaurant since childhood. When her family moved to Charlotte, she was shocked by the lack of Haitian food, so she opened Rasin, meaning "roots" in Kreyòl. The menu features staples like Griot, Snapper, and Lalo in a warm, family-style setting. (The restaurant is formerly known as Lakou.)
After moving from Miami in 2023, Ari missed the bold flavors she grew up with. At the 2024 Houston Caribbean Carnival, she met many others who felt the same. So alongside her mother, Pricia, she opened Griot Gardens, a Haitian-Caribbean restaurant in Houston, in February of 2025. Griot Gardens is a vibrant, plant-filled space serving traditional and vegan Haitian-Caribbean dishes.
